Ethiopia's $20m export flower industry booms

Ethiopia's flower industry was booming and may overtake coffee it's main export commodity, claims a leader in the horticultural sector.

" The country is generating $20 million (R135 million) a year from flower exports. This is only one-tenth of the coffee exports." says Tsegaye Abebe, chairman of the Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association.

" But as expansion of farm areas by 32 existing foreign and local investors progresses, the total export income from flowers is expected to reach $300 million a year by 2007, says Reuters.
