NIGERIA
Nigeria wants to be Africa's leader by 2020

Published: 06-DEC-06

Lagos – Nigeria would next year unveil a strategy that would position the West African state as Africa’s economic and financial hub, as well as bump it into the top 20 economies in the World by 2020, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor said.

Charles Soludo, who was represented by his special adviser, A.H. Ataman, said the Financial System Strategy (FSS 2020) would be available in February 2007 for the international community to comment on.

Atman said that in order to reach the required security levels, the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting firm would be revamped into a world class company capable of meeting the needs of the entire West African region.

He added that this would ensure that the CBN, from 2007, would no longer need to import bank notes. -Business in Africa Online
